PayPal (www.paypal.com) has been making the rounds in the Channel these past few weeks, announcing separate deals with both Micros and TSYS. Just days after announcing that it was partnering with Mercury to offer resellers more payment options, the eBay-owned payments giant revealed a “strategic global collaboration” with Micros Systems (www.micros.com) to offer PayPal as a payment option on the Micros point-of-sale platform.
The biggest reveal was that the PayPal integration wouldn’t be relegated to new Micros POS installations. The POS company made it clear that the service will be rolled out to large and small hospitality and retail companys currently using Micros POS solutions. Micros said that it will establish a Center of Excellence to help resellers and solution providers learn how to support and integrate the two platforms.
“Leveraging the capabilities and infrastructure provided by our MICROS Payment Gateway technology, we were able to quickly integrate PayPal with several popular MICROS hospitality and retail POS platforms, and have the ability to support a mass scale deployment of the solution to merchant locations around the world,” stated Michael L. Russo, Micros chief technology officer, Food & Beverage.
The collaboration will also offer a mobile component, in which consumers can use their mobile phones to pay for purchases via the PayPal appliocation.
“Through the PayPal mobile experience, millions of active PayPal mobile users can easily locate near-by MICROS clients that enable PayPal online, or in-store,” stated John E. Gularson, Executive Vice President, MICROS eCommerce. “We are happy to provide our clients with yet another innovative way to accommodate the digital wallet consumer.”
